The Last Supper
“In this installation, each suspended piece represents a figure connected to Christ’s Last Supper — not only the twelve apostles, but also Jesus, Mary (his mother), and Matthias, who would later replace Judas.
Originally baker’s boards, these wooden surfaces bear the marks of time — cuts, traces of dough, repairs, and signs of repeated use over the years. Upon them, lines were drawn with gold leaf and burned using sunlight concentrated through a magnifying glass. The number of burned lines on each board corresponds to the alphabetical position of the first letter of each character’s name in English. For example, “James” is represented by ten lines.
The first board represents Christ, marked by four groups of lines — 8, 13, 18, 8 — referring to the letters INRI, the inscription placed above the cross.
Mounted on a wrought iron structure, the work invites visitors to move among the 14 pieces and closely contemplate this symbolic and sensorial reinterpretation of the famous supper.”
